Just One Bite
During our Lunch Period Tastings, chidren use all of their senses to explore a varieity of ingredients. Some they may or may not have had the opportunity to eat at home. Whether it's beets, butternut squash, quinoa or cranberries, the Just One Bite tasting is the introducation to a new ingredient. Once tasted, students document whether they "tasted it", "liked it" or "loved it". Once talled, classroom discussion can insue or math classes anylyze the data.
After this introduction, we introduce the ingredient throughout the month in a variety of ways both in the main meal and on the salad bar.
The goal is to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and expand a repitoire of foods that each child is familiar with eating.
