FoodCorps at Philip's Academy

FoodCorps is a nationwide team of leaders that connects kids to real food and helps them grow up healthy.

Their mission states that "through the hands and minds of emerging leaders, FoodCorps strives to give all youth an enduring relationship with healthy food".

When we heard about FoodCorps and their mission (see below), we knew right away we wanted to host a FoodCorps Service Member at Philip's Academy.  Our missions were right in line with one another and we couldn't have said it better.  2013/14 is our first year of hosting a FoodCorps Service Member.

Here is what they have to say...

They envision a nation of well-nourished chidlren - children who know what healthy food is, how it grows and where it comes from, and who have access to it every day.  These children, immersed in a healthy food environment at a young age, will learn better, live longer, and liberate their generation from diet-related disease.

Placed in limited-resource communties for a year of public service, FoodCorps service members conduct hands-on education, build and tend school gardens, and facilitate getting high-quality local food into public school cafeterias.  They hope and expect that FoodCorps will have a significant impact on some of the most pressing issues of our time: chidhood obesity, food insecurity, environmental sustainability, and the way we farm, eat and educate.

What's not to like.
