Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have another child that does not attend Philip’s Academy; I want them to be considered for enrollment. What do I do?
    • Visit www.newarkenrolls.org and complete the online application form or download a One Newark Enrolls application and be sure to submit your application by the February 14th deadline.
  • Will siblings have preference like before?
    • Yes, students who want to attend a school their sibling attends will have priority for a seat at that school.
  • My student will not be five by the cut off deadline. Will I be able to apply?
    • No, only children celebrating their 5th birthday on or before October 1, are eligible for enrollment in the Kindergarten program. There are no exceptions to this.
  • I have more than one child that I would like to enroll. Do I have to complete two separate applications?
    • No, you will be able to list all siblings on one application.

  • In the past Philip’s Academy gave preference to new families from Newark, Irvington and East Orange; does this still apply even though Newark Public Schools is running the new system?
    • Yes, all families from Newark, Irvington and East Orange are still able to list Philip’s Academy on their application. However, residents of Irvington and East Orange cannot list any other schools on the application because the other participating schools only serve residents of Newark.
  • Will there still be a lottery?
    • No, after the application closes, automated computer software will match each student with the best possible school based on the student’s choices and the policies of the enrollment system. This computer software is used in several other districts with centralized enrollment systems, and has been customized for Newark’s needs.
  • When will I be notified about my school match?
    • All families that submit a One Newark Enrolls application will be notified by mail in late March. If you apply electronically you can also find out about your match by logging back into the Online Enrollment Center.
  • What is the difference between this new process and the old process?
    • In the past, families have had to navigate multiple application, competing timelines, and dual processes during regular enrollment seasons. One Newark Enrolls streamlines this process by combining application, timelines, and processes into a single system that all participating schools follow.
  • Who can I contact for assistance?
    • For general questions or concerns about the application process please contact enrollment@pacsnewark.org.
    • If you experience any difficulties with the One Newark website please contact the Enrollment Center at (973) 733-7333. You may also contact them with general questions or concerns.
