HOW TO APPY:
Philip’s Academy is a participant of Newark’s Universal Enrollment System, which allows families to access great schools for their children, regardless of the school’s status as a district or charter. Universal Enrollment is a convenient way of applying to schools and is available to anyone applying to Philip’s Academy who lives in Newark, East Orange, or Irvington. Individuals may select up to eight schools in order of preference on a single application. They will then receive a single offer to attend the best possible school given their selections.
Please note that ranking Philip's Academy Charter School as your #1 choice increases your child’s chances of being offered a seat in our school. While placement is not guaranteed, the algorithm is designed to attempt to match students with their number one choice.
How does Universal Enrollment work?
One Newark Enrolls streamlines the enrollment process by combining applications, timelines, and processes into a single system that all participating schools follow. In other words, families will only have to fill out one application, which will allow them to apply to all schools in the Universal Enrollment Program.
How do I complete an application?
Applications are currently available at www.newarkenrolls.org from now until February 29, 2016. You may apply anytime during the application period, there is no first come, first served basis. Families have the option of completing an application online, downloading a paper application, or filling one out at any participating school. Philips Academy is located at 342 Central Avenue, Newark, NJ 07103.
How can I secure a spot at Philip’s Academy Charter School?
Although we cannot guarantee admission to PACS, the higher you rank Philip’s Academy Charter School among your top eight choices, the greater the chances are for your child to attend our school.
How are students matched to schools?
After the application closes, automated computer software will match each student with the best possible school based on the student’s choices and the policies of the enrollment system. Students will then receive a single offer to attend the best possible school given their selections. This computer software is used in several other districts with centralized enrollment systems and has been customized for Newark’s needs. Students will learn of their matches prior to the end of the current school year.
